Dynasty Fantasy Football Important Player Storylines Through The First 5 Weeks Of The 2024 Season

I needed some time to evaluate this season so far as it has been an odd start for us all. Injuries. Lack of tight end production. Less TDs in general. Something had felt off so far this fantasy season.

I want to bring up a few story lines that have me excited, interested, concerned, etc.

Christian McCaffrey RB SF

McCaffrey is out until at least week 10, hopefully, trying to treat Achilles tendinitis. Asa physical therapist, I know firsthand that these injuries are buggers just like hamstring strains. I’m still pissed at the way the 49ers have handled his injury designation as most fantasy owners are. If you own Jordan Mason, continue to squeeze the production out of him. Especially in redraft. If a team is desperate enough for him and you’re able to get a first, do that too.

Bijan Robinson RB ATL

Bijan is off to a very slow start. One that we didn’t expect coming from a Sean McVay system implemented by Raheem Morris. As we saw this last week on Thursday night, the Falcons offense can get going through Kirk Cousins. The one question mark still is Bijan as he did not feast as the rest of the Falcons offense did. The Falcons drafted him at eighth overall for what?! To end up not getting used like he should be. I think we’ve heard this story before from this organization. Hold Bijan, but I wouldn’t be mad at you if you sold him because of a lack of confidence he’ll hold his value. Bijan, I believe, has the talent to break the game given the right opportunity.

Nico Collins WR HOU

Nico is my Michigan Wolverine darling. Last year was his breakout season, but this is the season he started to solidify himself as a top 5 dynasty wide receiver. His connection with CJ Stroud is what you want to see from an alpha WR like Nico. As of week 5, he was reported to be dealing with a hamstring injury. I’m hopeful it’s not serious and that he is back on the field soon.

Rashee Rice WR KC

Rice was off to a hot start with the Chiefs. Proving to be Patrick Mahomes favorite target. He was on my list of top consistent receivers. That was until that fateful day when Patrick Mahomes made an unnecessary move in a pointless tackle to potentially end his teammates season. We don’t know what’s going on with Rice’s knee. As of late, exploratory surgery was deemed necessary to determine the severity of his injury. I’m not optimistic about his return, but it’s a none zero chance that he returns some time this season. All that accounted for, he is a great dynasty buy for rebuilders and I’m still personally not selling on contenders. I am excited to see Rashee back on a football field (pending legal ramifications are not in effect before he comes back).

Jayden Daniels QB WAS

Mr. Daniels has arrived! I was a skeptic at the time of the NFL draft. I just thought he was on the high end a Lamar Jackson, or on the low end a Justin Fields. Jayden has proven his ceiling is even higher in my mind. We watched a series of 4 games where he completed 82.1%of his passes. Now that week 5 has come and gone, that will change, but this is Rookie of the Year stuff here. He is the QB1 of this most recent rookie class for me, and you can keep the receipts on that if you’d like. His accuracy is what surprises me. Not only is he a force rushing the ball, but he throws a beautiful ball. Scary Terry McLaurin is the immediate beneficiary of that so far. We know that he has to regress to the median eventually. It doesn’t last forever for rookies. Who knows? What I do know is that he has the moxie this team was looking for and they are the most surprising offense this season. As an owner of shares including Jayden, Brian Robinson, and Scary Terry I have been smiling a lot more lately. I hope to make these quarterly articles assessing the season. Stay tuned around week 8 or 9 for my halfway point review and players that I’m most excited about!
